This blog post is in response to Alex Jasso's "Ridiculousness taken to the next level". I thoroughly agree with everything Alex wrote; how could any hospital even begin to think that not giving a patient a necessary procedure would be okay? As a woman, I cannot even imagine the suffering that the woman must have felt. Honestly, I think I would be downright disgusted to have my miscarried child still inside of me, for any period of time. She was only 18 weeks pregnant at the time that her water first broke, so I'm sure this was over quite a long period of time... She was sent home multiple times, even though she claimed to be in "excruciating pain". Who's to say the woman would have even wanted to get rid of the baby? But once there's no chance of the baby being viable, then it should be a completely acceptable procedure, no matter what. I can't imagine what kind of stress and desperation the woman must have gone through during this time.

The article actually pissed me off quite a bit. What that hospital did was preposterous- and they deserve to lose everything they have built up. Religion should never come before a patient's health. She had an INFECTION that NEEDED to be treated. I just think that is so unacceptable.

Why she didn't decide to head to a different hospital is a different story though, you better believe I would have been trying every possible option to have the procedure done.

GROW the Economy!!

With the public opinion shifting more and more towards favoring the legalization of marijuana, one can hope that every state will eventually get on board. It makes no sense not to legalize it- all that marijuana "prohibition" causes is counter-productivity; it's ineffective and negatively effects the economy. Now, with the legalization of marijuana, we'd have the medical perks, a better economy, and happier citizens.

With legalization in Washington and Colorado, one can only hope that the rest of the United States will see the benefits. These two states have figured out laws and regulations that make it so there's virtually no negative effects for the population.

Not to mention the fact that alcohol is legal. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against alcohol, but it is definitely more damaging than our green friend mary jane. I think that if we are allowed to drink legally, why not let us smoke? This substance is literally GOOD for us. Not a single overdose case, no nasty side effects, and no depression or anger issues stem from marijuana- can you say the same for alcohol? (NO!)

I'm willing to guess that with the legalization of weed, crime rates would go down, economy would go up, and our loyal but unlucky citizens with cancer, glaucoma, etc could be happier and actually see more life.

With Uruguay and more and more of our states here in the US legalizing or at least taking steps towards the legalization of marijuana, I think we will see other states following suit in the near future.

In Tommy Gilbert's "The 28th Amendment: Freedom of Marriage", he brings up very worthy and significant points regarding marriage rights of gay couples. His argument is clear and concise, and I completely agree with what Gilbert writes. I, too support marriage rights for homosexual couples. As there are many different arguments on why gay marriage is negative, I like that Gilbert brings up the point of religious equality, and writes "There are people arguing that same-sex marriage is offensive to their religious views, yet they have nothing negative to say about their Jewish or Muslim neighbors", which makes banning gay marriage seem silly, honestly. We don't like/agree with the beliefs or practices of members of religions different than our own, but we still ACCEPT them. We need to ACCEPT the fact that homosexual couples share the same kind of unconditional love for each other that heterosexual couples can. They should be able to freely express the passion of their relationship by getting married.

With more and more states legalizing gay marriage, I have strong faith that the United States as a whole will soon allow it. It is rapidly becoming more acceptable i believe, but still not to the extent that it should. People that think homosexuals are sinners or are "gross" truly disgust me. I think gay couples deserve to be proud and show others their affection in public without being ridiculed. Love and marriage is something to feel honored about, not humiliated for. And these religious folk are just going to have to learn to deal with it, because its becoming much more widely acknowledged!

(This is amusing yet completely logical. Get over it people and just don't let it bother you; but let others be able to have the happiness in marriage that you do!)

ENDA, an act to prohibit the discrimination of sexual orientation in the workplace, is in high debate and being voted on currently by Congress in our national government. But whether or not republicans know they'll be losing more and more voters, it seems the only thing that changes a republican member of Congress' mind is if they have a gay family member. Even if every single democrat and independent in the Senate votes for ENDA, additionally 5 republicans will have to vote for the legislation as well (making 60 votes total). One can only hope some of these republicans will see the light, and why this bill will be beneficial for everyone. With the way the attitudes of American's are dramatically changing on gay rights, they'd be stupid not to pass said act.

A part of this bill that is loosening some conservative's views is that employers affiliated with a religious group are not subjected to the law. Although it doesn't completely defeat the purpose, it is still a bit unfair. Sexual orientation has absolutely no effect on a man's ability to work, and in my opinion ENDA should already be in effect; no questions asked from ANY company.

"I have stood up to social dinosaurs in every such battle - segregation, interracial marriage... and we have prevailed every time in favor of freedom and liberty for those not infringing on the rights of others."

I read an article called "GOP's Ben Carson: "Obamacare is the worst thing in our nation since slavery" from AMERICAblog, written Monday October 21, 2013. It was a very witty and comical opinion blog post written by John Aravosis about Fox News' Ben Carson. Carson is a right sided religious man who recently stated at a Voters Conference that he believes Obamacare is the worst thing to happen to our nation since slavery. Aravosis agreed to disagree, writing "Now, we could spend this entire article just listing the other events in American history that perhaps were even more outrageous than attempting to provide cheap and effective healthcare to millions of Americans:
The Civil War comes to mind.
As does Japanese internment.
And World War I.
And the Great Depression.
And World War II, which included the discovery of the Holocaust.
That whole Cold War thing was a bit of a buzzkill.
As was segregation and Vietnam.
And I don’t know about Ben Carson and the GOP – let’s face it, this is a party that can’t even decide on the relative evil of slavery – but 9/11 wasn’t exactly a happy-dance either."
I really enjoyed this post because while the author is being funny, he's being super critical and mean at the same time. The article goes on to explain what an idiot Ben Carson is. He has compared gay marriage to bestiality and pedophilia, and also made a complete joke about the civil rights of women.
Aravosis then starts to write about the Republicans in general being failures. Mainly for being the reason for the government shutdown, which could send us Americans into another depression. With the new debt ceiling offer that the House Republicans made last night, it is clear that we are pretty much screwed. "Russ Douthat in the NYT calls the current GOP strategy a “murder-suicide” pact.  The end-game of House Republicans seems to be an overwhelming desire to kill both the hostages and themselves".
Aravosis cleverly ends the article by explaining that along with everything else the republicans have messed up, they will most likely ruin the Christmas shopping season which is hugely important for the national economy; and then says "Merry Christmas!"
The author, John Aravosis, is very credible. In fact, he's the founder of AMERIAblog. His intended audience is democrats, as he is an American Democratic political consultant, writer, gay activist, and blogger. I thoroughly enjoyed this blog post, and will be reading AMERICAblog more often!

I read an article called "The House GOP has nothing to show for its government shutdown" from The Washington Post written October 7, 2013. Rather than an 'opinion' article, I would call it more of a brutal criticism. I did enjoy reading it though, because the author was bashing on the House Republicans for shutting down the government; writing that within a week, the House GOP has managed to ruin quite a few different components of our lives. I found the article pretty entertaining and comical. Although the authors write the article to relate to most citizens, I don't think a republican would enjoy reading it too much, so the intended audience is mainly for democrats, or those who disagree with what the House Republicans have been doing.

The author's claim is that within just a week, the House has "Damage[d] the livelihood  of millions of Americans. . . Waste[d] millions of taxpayer dollars. . . Interfere[d] with key government operations. . . Rattle[d] the markets, slow[ed] an economy in recovery, [and] interrupt[ed] potentially lifesaving research at the National Institutes of Health". They've done about all but what they've tried hardest to do, which is defund/delay Obamacare. In fact, they've taken the heat off of the few glitches that have occurred with Obamacare by being the hit for negative news attention. It's pretty hilarious, really. But sad, very sad.

The last sentence of this article really got me thinking: "But throwing a lifeline is pointless until the victim realizes he may be drowning. It’s not clear the Republicans have reached that point. The danger is they will take the country down with them." Its a scary thought with a powerful message behind it. We can only hope that The Republican House will get their shit together soon, before we really feel the effects.

I read the article "Obama, Cruz among those who could benefit from shutdown" by Michael O'Brien on MSNBC News. The article is about what will come from the possibility of the government shutting down next week. The already hurt economy could suffer even more pain due to the disagreements among the republicans and government about Obamacare. If there is government shutdown, it will effect day to day operations within Congress. Many of American workers will suffer if this happens, but a select few will benefit, including President Obama and Texas Senator Ted Cruz.

I think the article is worth reading because this could become a serious issue in the United States; it's crucial that the government comes to a consensus on what they're going to do before the beginning of October or we're all in trouble.
